Hungry for music charity rating

His guest spot on ZULI’s “Kollu l-Joloud” brought his haunting voice to the forefront, and now Saudi Arabia’s mysterious MSYLMA has released his own debut record. Dhil-un Taht Shajarat Al-Zaqum draws lyrically upon pre-Islamic and Quranic poetry, exploring themes of existential angst over a backdrop of abstract, grimy beats. It’s not a conventional listen in any sense, but even without being able to understand the Arabic lyrics, there’s something immediate and emotional about MSYLMA’s plaintive vocals. You can grab the album through Boomkat.

I often wonder what would happen if we bring back more of this kind of multilayered, allegorical thinking, this juicy stuff that made the music of Bach and others so meaningful in its day? Reviving these older creative methods and conceptions of music makes a worthy and profound experiment.

Although this list is technically geared towards kids… adults, do not be shy about confessing your love of these books! I’m actually prepping my Amazon cart with a few of these myself. And, more importantly, for those DIY touring musicians out there — not that we know how popular these books are — why not consider making one of these books yourself for your merch table? (Just a thought…)

So today, on World Television Day ’17, we’d like to commemorate 17 of the greatest moments in American-music-television history. Follow us chronologically as we explore the last 50-plus years and rehash some of the best, most awkward, and memorable times music stole the small screen and our hearts in the process.

Many of the acts that you’ll reach out to will have a booking agent or manager responding on their behalf, and while this may seem daunting at first, it actually makes everything much easier. Booking agents are typically more responsive (and more professional!) than musicians so don’t be scared off by their very official websites and emails.

After this case, Fogerty filed a countersuit against Zaentz to cover his attorneys’ fees. This case went to the Supreme Court in Fogerty v. Fantasy, Inc. (1993), which ruled that Fogerty would receive recompense without even having to prove that the original case was trivial.

You’re probably well aware of SoundCloud by now, but its widget feature is worth mentioning. Because SoundCloud is completely free and typically reliable, it’s the perfect place to host music over your site. Yes, you’ll lose some royalty money by not linking up to your Spotify or Apple Music account, but going with SoundCloud is the best option because it doesn’t force those visiting your site to sign up with yet another service. Plus, it’s essentially social media for track releases.

One of the more accessible composers on this list, Jennifer Higdon’s award winning music is characterized by an ability to appeal to a large audience and generally sits in a more diatonic, tonal setting. Her piece Blue Cathedral, which is one of today’s most frequently performed contemporary classical works in the United States, brought Higdon’s music to the world stage. Now with a real following, Higdon’s 2008 Violin Concerto gained her immediate international fame and subsequently won her the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in music. A self-taught flautist and self-professed newcomer to classical music, Higdon’s unconventional path to contemporary classical music makes it easy to recognize that she cites The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Bluegrass music of her home state of Tennessee as major influences. Higdon’s music sounds profoundly and whole-heartedly American and at times echoes that of the great American composer Aaron Copland.
